About the Arranger: Kirby Shaw
Kirby Shaw's influence on choral music education spans five continents and encompasses work with thousands of musicians at every level. Holding degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University and a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington, Shaw has built a career on making complex musical concepts accessible and fun. He founded and directed the acclaimed COS Vocal Jazz Ensemble at College of the Siskiyous and later led similar programs at Colorado State University and the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where he refined his gift for developing strong ensemble singers and arrangers.
Shaw's catalog includes over 2,500 choral arrangements and compositions that have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide. His mentorship extends beyond the page; he has studied vocal improvisation with Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Al Jarreau, and Jon Hendricks, absorbing their approaches to musicality and performance.
