About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor with a commanding presence across orchestral, band, and chamber music. His works have been heard in some of the world's most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association.
Balmages holds distinguished alumni status from James Madison University's School of Visual and Performing Arts and was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose music for the inauguration of the institution's 6th president. His work has been performed at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and in significant national contexts. As a guest conductor, he regularly leads all-state and regional ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide, with notable appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous international venues. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
