About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin AM is an Australian string educator and composer whose four-decade career spans performance, teaching, and advocacy. A violinist and principal violist with the Queensland Pops Orchestra, she studied at the Sydney Conservatorium and has performed with internationally acclaimed artists across chamber and orchestral settings. Since 1993, she has directed strings at Somerville House School in Brisbane, where she mentored generations of young musicians.

Beyond the classroom, Fin has shaped Australian string education at the national level. She served two terms as National President of the Australian Strings Association, adjudicated major competitions across the country, and presented at both Australian and American string teaching conferences. Her compositional output exceeds 100 works, published worldwide and performed in schools and competitions internationally. Her work earned her the National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching in Australia and a nomination for the inaugural ARIA "Best Teacher" award.
