More about this title

About the Composer: Andy Beck

Andy Beck

Andy Beck directs choral publications at Alfred Music and has composed and arranged over 450 choral works, vocal resources, and children's musicals that are performed by singers across the globe. His pedagogical resources including Sing at First Sight, Foundations in Choral Sight Singing, and Vocalize! 45 Vocal Warm-Ups That Teach Technique reflect his deep commitment to music literacy and vocal technique. Beck holds degrees in Music Education from Ithaca College and Northwest Missouri State University.

An accomplished tenor and director himself, Beck maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for honor choirs and all-state groups, particularly throughout the Southeast. He has been a studio singer for Alfred Music since 1992 and brings his experience in musical theatre and chamber choral singing directly into his compositions. His work consistently demonstrates both artistic sophistication and practical understanding of what singers need to succeed.

Why we love this

Beck's secular choral writing balances accessibility with genuine musical substance, and this accompaniment download makes rehearsal and performance preparation seamless. The recorded piano track gives your singers a reliable, well-crafted reference they can learn from independently, which is especially valuable when your rehearsal time is limited.

What to expect

Straightforward and singable, with the kind of warmth that makes secular text feel grounded and genuine rather than generic. The accompaniment sits comfortably in a rehearsal and performance context, supporting without overwhelming.

Who it's for

Directors seeking professional-quality piano accompaniments for secular choral repertoire, especially those who need to support independent student learning or who want a flexible backup for rehearsal and performance. Singers in secondary and adult choirs will benefit from having a reliable recorded reference available for home practice.

How to get the most out of it

  • Use the accompaniment track during sectional rehearsals so singers can lock secure parts without relying entirely on live piano.
  • Assign the recording as a practice tool for home learning; singers can work through their lines on their own schedule and arrive at rehearsal better prepared.
  • Pair the recorded track with live piano in early rehearsals to build confidence, then gradually transition toward a cappella or live accompaniment as security increases.
  • Reference the track during dress rehearsal to ensure balance and tempo are consistent with what audiences will hear.

How to use it

Include this in a concert program alongside other Beck works or other accessible secular choral selections for a lighter, feel-good moment that resonates with diverse audiences. The recorded accompaniment also makes this accessible for smaller programs or groups without a dedicated accompanist.

Skills your students will build

  • Singing with recorded accompaniment
  • Developing independent musical responsibility
  • Balancing melody and harmony with a fixed accompaniment
  • Pitch and intonation accuracy in home practice settings
