Beyond his concert and compositional achievements, Hayes has demonstrated sustained commitment to music education through his prolific output for student ensembles and developing musicians. In 2010, Baylor University recognized his leadership in Christian music; his world premiere of his Requiem at Lincoln Center in 2013 and subsequent performance at St. Ignatius Basilica in Rome further solidified his standing in the choral music community.
