Glenn Pohland

Dr. Glenn Pohland began teaching at Loras College in 2009, and currently serves as professor of music and director of instrumental music. Dr. Pohland conducts the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and chamber groups. He also teaches courses in music education, orchestration, instrumental techniques,

music in the movies, instrumental conducting and music history. Dr. Pohland also directs the Dubuque Area New Horizons band and is regularly asked to serve as guest conductor for many area honor bands. Dr. Pohland is a brass specialist and performs regularly in and around the Dubuque area.

Dr. Pohland received his BA in music education from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, his MMEd from the University of Minnesota, and his DMA in instrumental music education and conducting from Arizona State University. Prior to his appointment at Loras, Dr. Pohland taught two years at the University of MN and before that spent 24 years as the director of bands in Glencoe, MN.

Dr. Pohland and his wife of 43 years (Joanne) currently reside in Peosta, Iowa and have four children: John, band director at New Prague, MN High School, Joy Janssen, who works as a product manager in Minneapolis, Joel, band director at Pierz-Healy HS (MN), and Jillian who is currently teaching at Trailside Elementary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They also have 5 grandchildren: Louis Janssen of Minneapolis, Beth Pohland of Little Falls, MN, Edward Janssen of Minneapolis and 9 month old twin girls, Lillian and Lilah Reinert of Cedar Rapids, IA.
