Bill Palange
William Palange was a high school band director in upstate New York for 34 years before retiring in 2010. He spent the last 25 years of his career in Oswego (NY) as conductor of the Oswego HS Wind Ensemble and Concert Band as well as director of the Oswego H.S. Marching Buccaneers. Retirement has provided a wonderful opportunity to compose music.
A native of Syracuse, Mr. Palange earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Ed. from the University of Miami (FL) where he was principal trombone in the UM Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Fredrick Fennell. He performs extensively on trombone as a sideman for artists such as Frankie Valli, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, and The Temptations. He is currently lead trombone with the Central NY Jazz Orchestra and the Salt City Jazz Collective, the Mario DeSantis Orchestra and the Bearcat Jass Band. Mr. Palange also remains active as a guest conductor for numerous band festivals, All County and Area All State honor bands across upstate New York.
Mr. Palange was one of the founding members of the NYS Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) and served on the Executive Board of the NYS Field Band Conference, both as a class representative and as President. In November, 2015, he was inducted into the NYS Field Band Conference "Hall of Fame." In April, 1997, Mr. Palange received the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Musicians Award as "Outstanding Music Educator in Instrumental Music."
The Palanges - Bill and wife, Bobbie - still reside in Oswego, a short walk from the southeastern shore of beautiful Lake Ontario. They are very happy to live close to their daughter Katie, her husband Rob, and grandchildren Margaret Grace and Nicholas Robert.
