About This Collection

Description

The MakeMusic Cloud Jazz Ensemble collection features conductor scores and parts graded for everyone from beginners to advanced ensembles. You'll find popular standards like Chameleon, Watermelon Man, and Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock alongside holiday favorites, funk grooves, and Latin-influenced charts. Whether you're filling a full semester of repertoire or looking for a single strong closer, this collection spans easy teaching pieces and technically demanding arrangements that challenge experienced players.

Highlights

Teachers return regularly for Herbie Hancock's Chameleon, Watermelon Man, and Cantaloupe Island, all graded at Medium Easy and strong enough to carry an ensemble set. You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch by Albert Hague offers an accessible entry point for younger or newer ensembles, while Hank Levy's Whiplash serves advanced groups ready for genuine technical challenge.

Composer Spotlight

Gordon Goodwin started composing at five and wrote his first big band chart at thirteen. His natural facility with orchestration and arrangement caught the attention of film and television producers, work that eventually earned him three Emmy nominations. The Jazz Police is one of his contributions here.

Alan Baylock directs the Grammy-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas and spent twenty years as Chief Arranger for the United States Air Force Band's Airmen of Note. His arrangements have been performed and recorded worldwide, and Mamacita appears in this collection.

Kris Berg directs jazz studies at Collin County Community College in Texas and has built a national reputation through the ensembles under his direction, who have appeared repeatedly at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He founded both the Collin Jazz Fest and the Texas All-Star Jazz Camp, and his charts are widely adopted by programs across the country.
