About This Collection

Description

Grade 3 jazz ensemble arrangements give students genuine jazz vocabulary while staying within their technical reach. You'll find everything from standards like The Chicken by Alfred James Ellis and Work Song (originally by Nat Adderley) to newer pieces that bring variety to rehearsals. The collection spans swing, Latin, funk, and blues styles, with many titles suitable for contest and festival performance.

Highlights

Teachers keep coming back to The Chicken by Alfred James Ellis, a perennial favorite that students enjoy playing and audiences enjoy hearing. You Better Sleigh! by JaRod Hall and Wise Up by Gordon Goodwin are also popular choices for their balance of accessibility and musical substance. Things Ain't What They Used to Be by Mercer Ellington and Work Song round out the essentials most programs return to year after year.

Recently added

Recent additions include Salsa on the Side by Mike Pendowski, Moving On by Rachel Steckler, and Can't Go Wrong by Ken Mattis, giving you fresh repertoire for the current season.

Composer Spotlight

Gordon Goodwin began composing full arrangements at age thirteen and brought that prodigious early start into a career scoring for television and film. His work for jazz ensemble, including Wise Up in this collection, reflects decades of professional writing and multiple Emmy nominations.

Kris Berg directs jazz studies at Collin County Community College in Texas and has built a program known for invitations to the Montreux Jazz Festival. His charts have circulated internationally, and his arranging work appears throughout this collection, giving teachers access to material created by someone actively engaged in jazz education and ensemble direction.

Dave Wolpe has been arranging since 1965 and contributed charts to the Glenn Miller Orchestra and other major ensembles. His work brings a professional big band sensibility to the classroom, grounded in decades of real-world performance experience.
